Okeleke Nzeogwu PhD

Dr. Okeleke Nzeogwu is the MBA Program Director at USN. Before coming to USN, he was a tenured Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), Princess Anne, Maryland, where he taught for 14 years. He has a B.S. (1976) and an M.S. (1980) in Chemical Engineering, an M.B.A. (1980) and Ph.D. (1988) in Economics, all from the University of Missouri at Columbia.  Having spent most of his educational formative years in Missouri, Dr. Nzeogwu considers Missouri, the home of Mark Twain, his home state. He has two years of engineering industry work experience and more than 25 years of college-level teaching, research and community service experience at various campuses, including University of Missouri-Rolla/Columbia; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria; Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and UMES. Dr. Nzeogwu has done research and published in the area of collaborative learning and has attended many teaching related seminars and workshops on learning styles and multiculturalism. He attended a trans-cultural program in Cuernavaca, Mexico, and visited Hong Kong and Malaysia as faculty guest lecturer. Over the years, Dr. Nzeogwu has received four teaching-related awards and three recognitions, and has authored one introductory macroeconomics student learning guide. One of his teaching awards was the 1993 UMES President’s “Excellence in Teaching” award.

Before coming to USN, he had served as an academic administrator (departmental chair) and as chair of campus-wide faculty organization. He chaired and served on other faculty and student committees and he has served on a campus presidential search committee. He served as research consultant to various establishments, like the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore, Brain Injury Association of South Texas, Corpus Christi Public Housing Authority and UMES Rural Development Center, in their needs assessment and business surveys. He is active in students’ recruitment drives and enjoys visits to local elementary and high schools as guest speaker. Dr. Nzeogwu is active in various professional associations, presenting papers and organizing and chairing sessions, and he supervised master’s level thesis research and served on doctoral dissertation committees. He also has experience serving on governmental grants proposal review panels. He is a member of the Eastern Economic Association, Southwest Economic Association, Southwest Social Science Association, and the Western Decision Sciences Institute (WDSI) and served as paper reviewer for the institute. He has written one book which was featured on a Voice of America TV talk show, and he hopes to finish another book. His teaching philosophy is, “a good teacher is a shepherd of students’ dreams and aspirations.”
