Paul Oesterman PharmD
Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice
Introductory Experience Coordinator

Dr. Paul Oesterman was born in London, England. At an early age, his family relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pacific in Stockton, California in 1976. Upon graduation, he worked at a small rural independent pharmacy for a year. The following year, he became Director of Pharmacy Services for Lodi Community Hospital. During his tenure at the hospital, he expanded his role and became Director of Ancillary Services where he was responsible for the Pharmacy, Clinical Laboratory, Radiology, Cardiology and Pulmonary Medicine Departments.

After 13 years at the hospital, Dr. Oesterman accepted a position with Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. During his 10 plus years with Kaiser he served initially as a staff pharmacist, then Drug Education Coordinator during which time he established an Anticoagulation Clinic, and lastly as a Chief Pharmacist where he pioneered the community based pharmacy practice for Kaiser. At both the hospital and at Kaiser, Dr. Oesterman continually mentored pharmacy students, and in 1983 was awarded the State of California Preceptor of the Year award. Throughout his tenure, he participated in numerous community service events including coordinating Su Salud Health Fairs, serving on the Habitat for Humanity Family Selection Committee, and helping coach youth sports teams. In 2001, Dr. Oesterman relocated to Las Vegas where he accepted a position as a Clinical Consulting Pharmacist with Merck-Medco where he coordinated extern activities and worked per diem at a number of retail sites.

In May 2005 Dr. Oesterman accepted a position at the University of Southern Nevada as the early Experience Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice. His areas of special interest include Diabetes, OTC Self Care therapy, and patient education. Dr. Oesterman continues to serve the profession and community with numerous other services including continuing his service to Habitat for Humanity, being selected as a member of the State of Nevada Drug Utilization Review Board in 2006, serving on the Medical Reserve Corps since 2006, regularly assisting with Community Health Fairs, and serving since 2007 as a co-advisor for the locally and nationally recognized Drug Abuse Awareness Team. In recognition for his service, in 2008 he was nominated for and received the Wyeth Bowl of Hygeia award.

For relaxation and pleasure he enjoys spending time at his mountain cabin, traveling with his wife, camping, and visiting with his 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren who reside in California and Nevada.
