Barbara Wood
Director of University Relations

Barbara is the Director of University Relations. She has been with the University since 2004 as the Director of Development. Barbara was born in Columbus, Ohio where she attended Ohio State University and owned both a real estate and a catering company. She lived in several foreign countries and moved to Las Vegas with her two daughters in 1980.

Prior to working with the University of Southern Nevada, Barbara was the Nevada and Las Vegas Executive Director of the American Heart Association. Her experience in non-profit management, training, public relations, fundraising and community awareness is extensive. She has served on sixteen non-profit and community boards in Nevada, chairing boards, events, and committees in organizations from March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, CCTA, KNPR Public Radio, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Trustees-Business Council-Community Council-Women’s Council, Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada Executive Board, Nevada Power Community Board, Association of Fundraising Professionals, Risk Assessment For the Test Site Stakeholders Board, Toastmaster’s International District & Area Governor, and the Royal Order of St. John, to name only a few. She has served in a national capacity with both the American Cancer Society and the March of Dimes. Her fundraising efforts for charity as a volunteer in Nevada have raised over $1,850,000 and as a fundraising professional over $3,000,000.

Barbara has written and produced forty-eight public service announcement TV and radio commercials for Nevada non-profits and currently develops the USN Community Health Beat TV show aired on Cable 96. She has written columns for “Las Vegas Image Magazine”, “Jewish Life & Style Magazine” and the Challenger Newspaper, locally. She was named the Las Vegas Allied Arts Council’s “Playwright of the Year” in 1992. Her plays and poetry have been produced, published and performed in numerous cities and publications. Barbara has been recognized with the LVCC Circle of Excellence Award, the Woman of Achievement Award for Volunteerism, the Leadership Las Vegas Class of 1995 graduate; the WCCN Member Founders Award; ABWA Business Woman of the Year; March of Dimes FDR Award, Helen Whitelaw Honors Award and Volunteer of the Year; American Cancer Society Ruby Life Saver Award for Public Education and Nevada Volunteer of the Year; and, the Nevada nominee by both senatorial and congressional delegations for President Bush’s Volunteer Action Award.

Barbara passionately believes that there is no greater thing that we can do, than to reach out and help others. She encourages everyone to volunteer with the University and their community.
