Mr. Wiener comes to us from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Hired in January 2003 as Vice President of Fiscal Affairs, Mr. Wiener was charged with removing Bennett from accreditation probation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) due to fiscal instability. He accomplished this in December of 2003. For the fiscal years ended June 30, 2003 and June 30, 2004 he achieved balanced budgets and unqualified audit opinion letters.
Prior to his tenure from Bennett College, Mr. Wiener was with Western University of Health Sciences, in Pomona, California. Western University is a Graduate Medical University of Health Sciences consisting of four colleges. It has an annual general operating budget of approximately 40 million dollars and assets of almost 80 million dollars. During his 20 years at Western University of Health Sciences, Mr. Wiener has served in the following capacities: Comptroller, Executive Director of Finance and Business, Vice President of Finance and Administration Consultant.
Mr. Wiener successfully led Western University through various levels of voluntary accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in the areas of administration, finance and physical plant. WASC is the West Coast version of NWCCU. He supervised and directed the issuance of three tax-exempt bond issues through the California Educational Facilities Authority for 15.4 million, 23.7 million and 7 million dollars. During his tenure at Western University, Mr. Wiener also negotiated the acquisition and coordination of the complete renovation of the University’s main core campus buildings. He is credited with securing the largest deferred gift the University has received. And at Western University of Health Sciences, Mr. Wiener established and chaired the Budget Unit Managers Group, which brought together faculty, staff, and administration with fiscal responsibilities to share ideas, disseminate information on fiscal matters and to communicate and solve common problems.
Mr. Wiener and his wife Wendi have been married almost 35 years. He has one daughter, Jennifer and one grandson, Nathan Zachary.
