Jené Hurlbut RN, MSN, CFNPAssistant Professor of Nursing
Jené recently relocated to Nevada from New Mexico. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University in Tempe Arizona. She received a Masters of Science in Nursing Administration from the University of New Mexico and a Masters of Science in Rural Health with a Family Nurse Practitioner focus from Northern Arizona University.
Jené has over 15 years of teaching experience in nursing. She has taught in the nursing programs at the University of New Mexico and Boise State University in Boise Idaho. Areas of expertise are in mental health, community health settings, and adult health nursing.
She has given numerous poster presentations at nursing conferences on the topics of: the success of nursing students with hearing impairments, resources for the hearing impaired nursing student, and alternative clinical sites for nursing students in mental health settings. She has also written a chapter on adolescent mental health for a nursing review textbook. Additionally, Jené is a reviewer for several major publishers of nursing textbooks on physical assessment, fundamentals of nursing, and communication techniques in nursing.
Areas of research interest include facilitating the success of nursing students with English as a second language and nursing students with disabilities.
Clinical experiences have included health promotion and prevention in rural health settings, with extensive work with Native American populations. She additionally has clinical experience in community and inpatient mental health settings, as well as general nurse practitioner in a private practice.
