Dr. C. Lynn Hurst graduated from Southwestern University (Georgetown, Texas), in 1979, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Biology and was a research assistant for a year at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In 1984, Dr. Hurst received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dental School, followed by his certificate and Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Orthodontics from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, College of Dentistry.

Upon Completion of his education in 1986, Dr. Hurst entered private practice in San Antonio, Texas, where he practiced orthodontics for 20 years. After one year in practice, in 1987, he joined the orthodontic faculty at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dental School and has been involved in orthodontic education and research, since then.

In 1993, Dr. Hurst completed Phase III of board certification in orthodontics, achieving the status of Diplomate, American Board of Orthodontics. In 2003, was one of only 30 orthodontist to be recertified, as a Diplomate. From 2001 to 2005, Dr. Hurst, Clinical Associate Professor, served as Program Director of the newly established Orthodontic Residency Program at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dental School, Department of Orthodontics; a three-year program founded and designed to train orthodontist to become orthodontic educators.

Dr. Hurst was a Fellow in the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Leadership Institute Class of 2004-2005, a year-long fellowship to develop the nation’s promising individuals at academic dental institutions to become future leaders in dental and higher education. Upon completion of the fellowship Dr. Hurst accepted a full time academic position as Associate Dean for Advanced Education and Director of Advanced Education in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, School of Dental Medicine and served in those positions until December 2006. In September 2007, Dr. Hurst accepted the position as founding Dean for the College of Dental Medicine at the University of Southern Nevada to establish postdoctoral dental residency programs.

Dr. Hurst's early research interest was in biomaterials; however, currently his interest is in clinical investigations and he has several peer reviewed publications. Dr. Hurst is a member of and actively involved in: Omicron Kappa Upsilon (National Dental Honor Society), the American Dental Association, Nevada Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics, International Association of Dental Research, American Association of Dental Research, American Dental Education Association, the Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research and the International Academy of Advanced Interdisciplinary Dentistry.

Dr. Hurst is licensed to practice orthodontics in California, Nevada and Texas.
