MBA Joint Program Q&A

1. How do I get additional information about the MBA program?
Visit the MBA information desk in the Student Commons before or after your COP interview.

2. Do I need a separate MBA program application?
No. With the letter of admission by the College of Pharmacy, only a one-page sign-up application form and a $50 application fee is all that is needed to apply.

3. Is the USN MBA Program for Pharm.D. students using the same class hours and the block system philosophy as the College of Pharmacy (COP)?

Yes.

4. Do students take Pharmacy and MBA classes at the same time?
No. In general, Pharmacy students enrolled in the MBA program use their summer remediation times to take their MBA courses. Students can only take one course at a time and this helps to ensure students’ success. However, during the P3 Block (3.3/3.4), joint program enrollees can take MBA courses while other students are on rotations.

6. How long does it take to complete the MBA as a Pharmacy student?
The MBA program is scheduled in a way so that it takes about the same time to complete as your pharmacy degree, which takes three years.

7. Are there tuition and fee savings in enrolling in both programs?
Yes. Enrolling in both programs allows students to use some MBA courses to satisfy College of Pharmacy electives and vice versa, and to save on certain fees (student body fees, technology fees, etc.)

8. How much will the MBA program cost?
The entire MBA program tuition is $18,270 (or 30 credits at $609 per credit) spread over a three year period. The reason for the lower tuition is that students get nine MBA credits for taking some COP courses and six MBA credits are covered by COP tuition.

9. When do I apply?
You can apply immediately after you receive admission from the College of Pharmacy (COP).

10. How do I apply?

Applying is as simple as filling a one-page application with a $50 application fee. Your one-page application will authorize the College of Pharmacy to provide the MBA program with copies of your transcript and other information.

11. When is the best time to start the program?

The best time to start is the summer before your first year (pre-P1) in the COP (first week in July).

12. Is an undergraduate degree required for admission?

Pharm.D./MBA joint program students are waived the requirement of having earned an undergraduate degree prior to their enrollment, but the Pharm.D. will be awarded before the MBA.

13. I took some business courses over seven years ago. Will they be considered for a waiver?

Normally, only business courses within the last seven years of enrollment can be considered for a waiver toward the foundation (6) courses and/or a very limited number of the core MBA (10) courses. Any business courses completed more than seven years ago will not be considered for a waiver unless recent and significant work experiences reinforce the prior academic course work in the discipline.

14. How many of your current MBA students are also enrolled in the Pharm.D. program?

A majority of our MBA students are enrolled in the College of Pharmacy (60%). This past year, 21 new students signed up for the Henderson joint program and seven signed up at South Jordan, Utah. These students are generally very motivated and academically strong students. Attrition is very rare.

15. What if the College of Pharmacy admission is for the Utah Campus?

The MBA program is available to Pharm.D. students at the Utah campus.

16. What other information does one need to know?
The USN MBA program was designed primarily to serve USN students in the College of Pharmacy, Dental Medicine and Nursing. The USN MBA program is healthcare focused and committed to students’ success and professional development.
