Mable Smith RN, JD, PhD
Dr. Mable H. Smith is the Dean and Professor, Nursing Program at the University of Southern Nevada. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Florida State University, a Masters in Nursing from Emory University, a PhD in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University, and a JD degree in Law with honors from the College of Law at Florida State University in 1993.
Dr. Smith began her academic career as an Instructor of Nursing at Florida A&M University (FAMU) Tallahassee, Florida in 1980 and has worked as an Associate Professor at University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and Old Dominion University (ODU), Coordinator of the Nursing Program at USM, Gulf Park campus. She has worked as a staff nurse at various health care facilities and as a Nursing Supervisor at a Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr. Smith has taught courses at all level of the curriculum, including, generic undergraduates, RN-BSN, graduate and doctoral level students. She has received several awards for excellence in teaching. A prolific writer, Dr. Smith has authored and co-authored numerous refereed publications, which include chapters in textbooks and a textbook The Legal, Ethical, and Professional Dimensions of Higher Education scheduled for publication by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins Publishers in November 2004. She has presented presentations at numerous local and national professional meetings. She is a member of several national professional organizations, including the Virginia Bar Association and currently serves on the Board of Directors of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys.
