Welcome from the Program Director

Welcome to the University of Southern Nevada’s Continuing Education program. If you are new to continuing pharmacy education, I hope I can shed some light on the types of programs we offer; if you have been to our programs before, I would like to let you know about plans to expand our offerings.

Since early 2008 we have utilized online registration for our live programs, but our technology-based learning will not stop there. In the future we hope to offer more blended learning (a mix of online and live training) through the same online learning management system our students use, which will allow us to offer more hours of CE credit and more depth with our learning topics. We will also incorporate more types of learning activities into our CE programs; for example, our Fall 2010 programming includes an interactive skills workshop on immunization administration technique.

We’re also excited to tell you about some big changes that are coming regarding the way CE hours are tracked.  ACPE has partnered with NABP to set up a national online CPE tracking system, which will give pharmacists access to records of all their CE hours in a single online location, and boards of pharmacy will also be able to easily access CE records. All accredited CE providers will be required to report CE hours for each pharmacist or technician attending a program or participating in home-study CE. This program is in the very early stages of pilot testing and there is still a lot we do not know about how it will be implemented, but if you have any questions, please contact us and we will do our best to find an answer for you.

USN will also continue our partnerships with the Nevada Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Nevada Hospital Association. Through these collaborations we have been able to help expand the number of live CE programs in Nevada, plus we have been able to offer APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate program to Nevada-based pharmacists.

On behalf of the USN Continuing Professional Education Program, we look forward to continuing to meet your continuing education needs in the future. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about our program.
